why else would they invest such strong emotions in it?
in my experience, the opposite of love isn't hate, but indifference.
A study was done to see if straight, homophobic men had more homosexual tendencies than straight, non-homophobic men. A survey determined who was homophobic and who wasn't. All the men were strapped to a device that measured penis growth. The men were shown, one at a time and alone in a room, a random assortment of pictures that depicted either homosexual porn, heterosexual porn, or nonsexual images (e.g., kittens).
Thankfully, no one got a chubby because of the kittens. All of the men exhibited growth when presented heterosexual porn. These findings were expected.
NONE of the non-homophobic men exhibited growth when presented with homosexual porn, yet ALL of the homophobic men did. Now, the growth wasn't as pronounced as it was for the heterosexual porn (my psych professor actually used the word "semi"), but it was there -- for all of them.
Obviously, penis growth doesn't necessarily mean arousal, but it definitely poses quite a few questions.

^It's not wasting a vote. People who got you to think that are fear-mongering Repubs and Dems. A wasted vote is one for a lesser of two evils. Do you realize that a substantial spike in 3rd party votes could eventually allow for more people in the debates than an evil and his lesser evil? The more votes 3rd parties get the more visibility they will ultimately gain. That leads to more options and more legitimized competition for presidency.
Unfortunately, the nature of the SMD system does not allow for more than two parties.
