Too articulate?

That makes me queasy.

I am genuinely concerned by the people who want their politicians to be more down to earth. They typically decry people who are intelligent and well educated and claim that they have no idea what it's like for the average person. The latter complaint is somewhat valid. But the reaction is to vote for someone with below average intelligence like George Bush or Sarah Palin.

I think she really meant to say too scripted. I thought that both candidates sounded too panderous.. but that's nothing new and was totally expected.

Oh btw.. this is one of Fox's special focus groups which I cannot trust after they've been busted for fixing focus groups in the past with scripted actors.

Also.. I would downvote for the title of this posting but I'll upvote for the promotion of the discussion.

I'm upvoting despite the title. Something like "Frank Luntz Talks With Focus Group After 1st Debate" would be better.

I think the most factually incorrect bit about this is that Luntz at the end said they wanted more details from Obama. Didn't everyone say he gave the most specifics, and that McCain only gave stories?

That's counter to the Fox/GOP storyline, but what they showed of the conversation with the focus group blew holes in it.

Wow, Style of Substance...there's your answer McCain! Catchphrases smiles and empty but sexy promises! To...THE WHITEHOUSE!

I do feel like this 'undecided voter' group are commenting more on a sample product than the future of the US and its interests for the next for years...

Obama was too polite. Take off the gloves damnit.

Americans won't Get It unless you spell it out for them in blunt terms.

The entire debate should have been like the first 10 minutes - one McCain failure after another.

Coincidentally, the same people are also the only group left in America who can serve as jurors at an O.J. trial.

Half of the room thought McCain did well, and most of the room thought Obama did well.
Doesn't sound like a "narrow" win in the opinion of the focus group to me.

Ugh, now I sound like yet another average liberal sifter.

"Obama was too articulate."

While in a game of CS some pinhead decided to say something similar, "Obama thinks he can win the presidency just because he's got an ivy league education". I'm hoping it's a minority of the population that thinks being intelligent or articulate or a college graduate are NOT negative traits for the position of president.

Ok I agree the title was a bit off so I changed it. After all, if undecided voters are the dumbest people in America, what are the people who believe Bush is a great president?

undecided voters at this point are mostly intensely selfish people, unable to care about their community enough to read a fucking newspaper or in any way pay attention to whats been happening at any point in the last year of campaigning.

Ivy league education does not necessarily equal Intelligent (i.e.: George Bush, Dan Quayle)

It is however a political "in-crowd" though isn't it?

I hate frank, I hate fox, and I hate the stupidity that keeps people from understanding whats REALLY going on. Too many people are being lead to believe complete and utter nonsense. In the end Mccain only has to fight agaisnt Obama, but Obama has to fight against ignorance and prejudice.

On the contrary, I think some of them may be the most clear-sighted among us. Most of us chose our candidate before even hearing them speak (the "Democrat" or the "Republican"). Fanboys aren't just for game consoles anymore.

reading a newspaper, watching debates on television, and following campaigns online rarely imparts one with sufficient information to cast an informed vote.

for it does not matter if you know the candidates alleged stance on the issues, if you do not have a proper understanding of the issues themselves--and newspapers, television, and political campaigns are no place to receive an education.
