^I respect people's different opinions and taste. But I think ObsidianFire is downvoting my recent cat videos just out of spite. You've got problems with cat videos being sifted here? Alright then, nothing I can do about that. But that's still YOUR problem.
If you didn't want to see cat videos, don't watch it. It's clearly labeled 'catsanddogs', thumbnail has cat images on it, and the title & tags clearly say the word 'CAT'. Why watch something you know you're not gonna enjoy and bitch about it later? Whose fault is that?
ahem... anyhow... its obsidian's prerogative to whine and downvote for whatever reason just as its your prerogative to share a 5 minute video of a wild-eyed cat repeatedly pouncing out over a camera in dramatic fashion. I upvoted, but admittedly didn't make it through the whole video.

Exactly the opposite reaction here - that scares the hell out of me. You do know there are 500+ lb cats in the world, right? Tigers and lions? Yeah, they kick our asses. I'm so glad we have guns (and whatnot).

How exactly does this dumb us down? I'm guilty of having a (briefly) top-15 cat video, of absolutely no intellectual value, and I can't fathom how you think it could have been guilty of impacting anyone's mental abilities in any way. Cats frequently do weird shit and some people get a kick out of watching that - so what? Actually, per earlier in this comment - slap on a title screen with "NEVER mess with large cats if you aren't *certain* they can't get you", shorten it quite a bit, and end with a "The more you know" outro and you've got a useful PSA. So there - this might actually smart people up.
I downvoted on your cat videos because the sift is already overflowing with them. It's clogging up the rest of the sift.
The tubes aren't clogged. Other than taking up a slot on the top 15, what is the damage cat vids cause? None. What is the joy they bring? Much!
Sorry, if people like cat vids (like me) then they should absolutely be in the top 15. If you like vids of the LHC and sleep theory (like me), then go to the science channel (like I do).
Sift to channel, that's the way it works. The top 15 will represent the lowest common denominator, that's just how it works. Feel free to downvote if you object to people enjoying cuteness, but I for one think it's strange to expect anything else.
Beware the video that will feature both cats AND Obama. It will shatter the vote record for sure
Don't forget atheists. And Yahtzee. Yahtzee's wisecracking Obama-supporting creationist-smashing cat will destroy the sift.
